Takulandirani Tourism Expo to cost Government MK75 million

The Malawi Government will spend over MK75 Million in order to host the first ever Tourism Expo 2017 at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Henry Mussa said this when he briefed the press in preparation of the Expo which takes place on August 30 to September 1, 2017.

The Minister revealed they will also get support from various stakeholders in the tourism industry to make the event great.

Financially, they have received over MK25 million in pledges towards the event.

Mussa said the aim of the Expo is to promote domestic tourism, where Small and Medium Enterprises-SMEs will also take part.

He did acknowledge SMEs make a huge contribution to the country’s economy as such they need to build linkages with other sectors including; ICT, Banking and Transport sectors to boost tourism.

The Expo will provide a platform for the participants to interface and experience first-hand, Malawi’s tourism products.

Participants confirmed to attend include international and regional buyers, tourism authorities and ministries responsible for tourism, the academia and the general public.
